Why dance?

Dancing is a fabulous individual as well as team activity where children learn discipline, focus and collaboration as well as dance technique.

Why choose Studio West?

We are a fun and focussed studio that truly celebrates dance and the power found within it. Our teachers are passionate about their craft and will inspire your children to express themselves and do their best.

When do classes start, and when do they end?

Classes begin the first week of September and run through to the year end show in mid-June. Once you register your child, you will receive a full schedule in Septembefor the entire year, including breaks over the winter and spring, and year-end show dates.

What does my child wear to class?

Proper attire is required for each class.  This information is detailed on our dress code page.

What if my child misses a class?

If your child is ill or you are heading on vacation, please give us a call at the office so that we may notify the teacher.  We do not, however, offer reimbursement or make up classes for these reasons.  If a class is cancelled by the studio a make up class time will be offered.

What else do I need to consider?

It is important to consider dance a commitment for the whole year.  As the children learn and perform a routine together, if one child is missing it can negatively affect the group.  Performances can be during the day on weekdays, this will require arrangements to be made to ensure your child is present at all events.  Attendance at competitions and performances is mandatory as discussed at registration.

What if my child doesn't want to “compete”?

No problem – we offer both competitive and non-competitive (recreational) classes.

Can I come in to register?

In the best interest of keeping our families safe, we will not be holding any in-person registrations. If you are having difficulty with the online registration process, email us and we will be happy to help you.

What are the costs involved?

All prices are shown on the parent portal when you select the class(es) you wish! Monthly fees include the cost of classes only. Additional costs to consider include a $25 registration fee, proper dance clothing required for specific classes and dance shoes required for specific classes. This varies for each dance form. Costume fees are additional and are shown on the portal when you select your classes. Competition fees are also additional if in fact your child has been selected for a company program. Class fees can be paid monthly through pre-authorized bank payment or monthly credit card payment.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Class fees can be paid:

  • in full at the beginning of the year via cash, cheque or credit card, or

  • monthly via post dated cheques or pre-authorized debit.

Registration fees are due at the time of registration and can be paid by via cash, cheque or credit card.

Costume and competition entry fees must be paid at the time of registration, and can be paid via post-dated cheque or pre-authorized debit and are spread out over the first few months of classes.  Please discuss with us at registration.

Do I pay less in months when there are fewer classes? (e.g. in December?)

No, we take your total annual fees and divide it by 10 to make each monthly payment the same. You then pay “ten equal instalments” for the whole year’s fees.

Are there studio photos taken?

Yes! We do both group and individual photos in the Spring of each class. These are great keepsakes, and although purchase is optional we encourage your child to take part in all photos as a memento to the others in their group.

Who dances in the year-end performance?

All dancers will perform at least once in our year end show in June. It is a fun and exciting way to wrap up a year of hard work! Dancers are not required to pay to perform, the theatre costs are covered by the studio. Anyone wishing to watch the show from the audience is required to purchase a ticket (including dancers). Tickets will be available for sale in June.

What about COVID?

To ensure the safety of our dancers, all local public health guidelines will be followed and the studio will continue to be cleaned on a regular basis. Dancers are welcome to wear masks at anytime, however masks are currently not required. Dancers are asked to stay home if they are sick.
